The 53 Honda J was the first in the J series line. It was followed by the JA in 1954, the JB in 1955
and the JC models in 1956, 57, 58. The J model had a 90 cc engine. It was a very utilitarian machine
in many respects and did not have a speedometer, or rear suspension. The JA shared the same basic engine
configuration as the J model with some internal parts being interchangeable. The later JB model and the
3-year production of the JC model were all fitted with 125 cc engines. Like all of the J series machines,
it had a 3-speed transmission. The JA had many design improvements that set it apart from the J-model.
Among the changes were a speedometer, and rear suspension.
My good friend Ron Mousouris owns this model J. It runs very well, and the photo above was taken on a trip
through Utah where Ron rode the little 90cc J model about 800 miles. The bike is a very nice example of a
J model. It was imported from Japan having been purchased from a private collector there.
Even though it is not perfect, it is certainly the nicest J model in the US that we know of.
